Chain Lube FAQs

FAQ: mountainFLOW Plant-Based Chain Lubes (All Weather, Dry, Wet, Wax)

Q: How should I apply mountainFLOW chain lube?

A: To apply, first, clean your bike chain thoroughly to remove any dirt and old lubricant. Shake the bottle well before use. Apply the lube to the inside of the chain while turning the pedals backward to ensure even distribution. Let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe off any excess lube with a clean cloth. NOTE: our All Weather, Wet, and Dry lubes can be applied to a dirty chain. Wax requires a clean and dry chain otherwise it won't adhere as well as it should.

Q: Do I need to wear safety equipment when applying mountainFLOW chain lube?

A: mountainFLOW lubes are plant-based, biodegradable, non-toxic, and petroleum-free. As such, it is never a bad idea to wear gloves to prevent aggravating sensitive skin. However, it is not required.

Q: What if my pet or child gets into my chain lube?

A: If your pet or child accidentally comes into contact with mountainFLOW chain lube, wash the affected area with soap and water immediately. If ingested, seek medical advice or contact a poison control center promptly, even though the ingredients are non-toxic and plant-based.

Q: What is the packaging made of?

A: The packaging for mountainFLOW chain lubes is made from 100% recycled plastic. The bottles are designed to be as eco-friendly as the products they contain.

Q: Do I need more than one type of chain lube?

A: The type of chain lube you need depends on the conditions you typically ride in. Here's a quick guide:
- All Weather: Suitable for a variety of conditions, providing versatile protection and performance but goes on wet and stays wet.
- Dry: Ideal for dusty or dry environments, preventing dirt from sticking to your chain. Goes on wet and dries on the chain.
- Wet: Best for wet or muddy conditions, offering excellent water resistance.
- Wax: Provides a clean and quiet ride, great for reducing friction and repelling dirt. Goes on wet then dries, forming a protective coating on the chain.

Having more than one type can be beneficial if you ride in varying conditions.

Q: Is mountainFLOW chain lube toxic?

A: No, mountainFLOW chain lubes are non-toxic and made from plant-based ingredients. They are designed to be safe for you and the environment.

Q: Is it okay to get mountainFLOW chain lube on my grass?

A: Yes, mountainFLOW chain lube is safe for the environment and won't harm your grass. However, to avoid any unnecessary buildup, it's still best to apply the lube over a surface that can be easily cleaned.

Q: Is it okay to flush mountainFLOW chain lube down the sink?

A: While mountainFLOW chain lubes are non-toxic and biodegradable, it's always best to avoid flushing any lubricants down the sink. Instead, dispose of any excess lube in a proper waste container to ensure environmental safety.
