mountainFLOW How To: Lube Your Bike Chain
Why and How to Lube Your Chain with mountainFLOW - Go Fast, Be Green, and Get the Best out of Your Equipment
Chains are one of the most essential and high-wear bike components. Each chain link actually contains several moving parts including: rollers, plates, pins, and bushings and are in constant tension moving you forward -- that's a ton of friction!
Chain lubricant protects all these pieces from the elements and keeps them working together to move you forward. Lubing your bike chain according to how often you ride and what conditions you're in is an essential part of maintenance.
What you put on your bike goes directly into the environment whether as excess during application, running off while cleaning your bike, or just by riding! Unlike most chain lubricants, all mountainFLOW Bike Products are plant-based, eco-friendly and keep petroleum out of our waterways while maintaining high performance and long-lasting lubrication.
For best performance, we recommend cleaning/de-greasing your chain and allowing it to dry before lubricating it. Choose your lube based on the conditions: all weather, wet, dry or wax if you prefer a wax-based option. With your rear tire off the ground:
1.) Pedal backwards and apply lube to each chain link drop by drop.
2.) Rotate the chain several times to work the lube completely into all the chain links.
3.) Wipe off any extra lube and allow your chain to dry completely before riding.
4.) Go biking!
Depending on where you’re riding and how often you ride, you might lubricate your chain every day. We’re stoked to offer a complete line of 100% biodegradable bike lube so that you can get the most out of your gear and rip in any conditions! Ultimately what you put on your bike ends up in the watershed, so take care of your chain, bike fast, and be green with mountainFLOW!
